The Netherlands edged Japan in a breathless-5-sets competition!!
In Tokyo, 11th August, the Netherlands upset host Japan in 5 sets thrilling competition among the full-capacity of 10,000 spectators packed in the stadium. The Netherlands went on the field with less pressure and played spectacular solid volleyball resulted in winning the evening match by 3-2 sets: 25-18, 26-28, 25-20, 25-27, 15-11 in the two hours and a half hard fought contest.
With an impressive attacking and solid blocking, the Netherlands clinched the 1st set with the score of 25-18.
In the 2nd set, Japan went on the field with quick spikes and performed better focusing on point by point. Although they made many errors in spike, the very well teamwork and overwork receiving brought them up to the match and eventually took the 2nd set with the score of 28-26.
The 3rd set went for the Netherlands when the showed superb form of both attacking and defensive with many blocking points. Moreover, Japanese ladies continued making mistakes in many spikes of Kimura and Araki resulted in giving the set to the Netherlands with 20-25.
The japanese among the 10,000 screaming fans came up their form in the 4th set when they fought in every point and brought up everything for the game. With the sharp spikes of Kurihara and Takahashi, Japan came back from behind 22-24 to level at 24-24. Then, the japanese ladies made it becomes true taking the set with score of 27-25.
In the tie break, the Netherlands performed far better in both attacking and defensive to quickly lead 6-1, 7-2, and 8-3. Even if the japanese used every tactics and built up really good fought, the Netherlands did not take the chance away when they won the match point with 15-11.
